There Is No Hair Loss Cure Just Treatments To Restore

 

There is no hair loss cure for either permanent or temporary hair loss.  Hair loss is treatable and in some instances it will grow again without treatment of any type.  Although there is no known cure for hair loss yet, chances for such a cure seems to be getting better.

There are factors which control the effectiveness of medications used for hair loss cure.  The way that the individual reacts to the medication, the reason for the hair loss, and the amount of hair that is lost, will all figure into the equation.

Some of the hair loss treatments which are approved by the Food and Drug Administration are:

Minoxidil (Rogaine) which is a non prescription drug is used as a hair loss cure.  It comes in both a two percent and a five percent solution.  Rogaine - with minoxidil - is available in liquid or foam form which can be massaged into the scalp two times daily which should cause hair growth and stop hair from additional hair loss.  With some people both hair growth and no further hair loss occur.  In others, only one or the other happens.

With this medication hair growth may no occur for 12 weeks or some may experience a small result in only six weeks.  If you experience any hair growth within 6 weeks the doctor might recommend that the patient stop usage of the minoxidil.  The new hair growth could be short and not as thick as the normal hair but it can be made to blend in and cover the more sparse areas.  However, once you stop using the drug, the benefits stop.

Finasteride (Propecia) is for male pattern baldness and comes in pill form which is taken each day.  It is not recommended for women.  It is very dangerous to women who are still in their childbearing years.  In fact, it is recommended that women who are pregnant not even handle a crushed pill containing finasteride the absorption of the pill into the skin could possibly cause birth defects in a male fetus.

In men who are taking the medication there can be either a slowing down of hair loss or a sign of some new growth.  It has taken several months for optimistic results to occur.  Once you stop using finasteride the benefits end as well.  Remember that women of childbearing years should not use finasteride as a hair loss cure.

Corticosteroids are cortisone injections put into the scalp to treat hair loss.  These injection treatments are taken each month.  By using corticosteroids as a hair loss cure there may be signs of hair growth within four weeks of beginning the treatment.  This medicine comes in cream and ointment form but is thought to be not as effective as the injection form.

Another treatment for hair loss cure is surgery for hair transplants.  This involves small plugs of hair, from your own scalp being implanted into the bald sections of your hair.  Scalp reduction is also a surgical procedure which lessens the bald area of the scalp by removing it and closing the area with  a hair–covered part of the scalp.
